Forward Careers, Inc. has been awarded a $100,000 grant from United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County to launch CAREER LIFT, a new workforce development program designed to help Southeastern Wisconsin residents facing the steepest barriers to employment.
CAREER LIFT will serve individuals who are often overlooked by traditional workforce programs, including justice-involved individuals, opportunity and foster youth, low-wage workers seeking career advancement, and community members facing barriers such as unstable housing, transportation challenges, and limited access to education.
The program is built on culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and flexible approaches that address the complex realities participants face. Services will include case-managed career planning, mentorship, upskilling and credentialing, employer engagement, and wraparound supports such as transportation and education navigation.
“Employment is one of the most powerful levers for social mobility, but too often, those who need the most support are left out of traditional workforce systems,” said Cindy Simons, President & CEO of Forward Careers, Inc. “Through the generosity of United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County, CAREER LIFT will provide a pathway for individuals to overcome barriers, achieve economic independence, and build brighter futures for themselves and their families.”
This investment from United Way underscores a shared commitment to advancing equity and inclusion in the workforce, ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to thrive.
